It is my pleasure to welcome you again in the city of Dubai, to attend the Emirates Ophthalmology Conference (EOC 2010), in its 14th cycle.
This year, EOC is in partnership with the Dubai Health Authority, and in collaboration with the Noor Dubai Foundation, a Dubai based NGO concerned with the prevention of blindness globally.
EOC 2010, being one of the dynamic meetings in the region, targets an important sector of healthcare which is Ophthalmology and the prevention of blindness.
Unfortunately, according to the statistics released by the WHO, approximately 314 million individuals are either blind or have low vision, and of those, 1.4 million visually impaired children are below the age of 15 years. Furthermore, 80% of global blindness is avoidable if the proper management was made available on time.
We at the Dubai Health Authority are dedicated to contribute to such noble initiatives by partnering and supporting awareness campaigns and educational events such as the EOC 2010.
We look forward to the success of EOC 2010 through its highly professional, highly specialized and up-to-date sessions and seminars to convey recommendations of great consequence and magnitude in the field of Ophthalmology and prevention of blindness.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to extend my thanks to all the international and regional Councils and Associations who collaborate d and supported the EOC 2010.
